Rose d’Ispahan

Color pencil study of an Ispahan rose. These beautiful roses, also known as ‘Pompon des Princes’, are native to Iran and are used in perfume making. Their beauty and fragrance have inspired literary, visual art, and musical works, serving as a symbol of love, mystic, and elegance. I was introduced to the damask flower when hearing Gabriel Fauré’s famous piece, “Les Roses d’Ispahan” Op. 39 No. 4, which beautifully celebrates the essence of this enchanting bloom.
