Drawing and making art have been an important part of my life. Through my artwork I express ideas and attempt to gain understanding of light, life and the physical and internal spaces we inhabit. I took my first painting class as a high school student at the Art Institute of Boston, with artist Sarah Sze.  Following that, I studied figure drawing at the Scuola del Nudo, Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy and at CSU Florence with Marsha Steinberg. Since then, I have continued to sketch, draw and paint, and am currently studying painting and drawing at Cabrillo College in Aptos with the inspirational artists and teachers, Ron Milhoan, and Margitta Dietrick-Welsh. I consider the act of art making to be highly meditative, intuitive and personal. My artwork is always done from life (observation) and imagination, not from photographs — through being present with the subject, one can capture the ephemeral qualities of light, mood and spirit.
